UNICEF Netherlands asked Lotte to help develop a new educational toolbox that volunteers could use to teach children's rights with a more experiential approach. They were looking for a concept that would make children's rights more accessible, and would open up the conversation about how children's rights are also important in the daily lives of Dutch children.
In order to develop a concept that would take into account both UNICEF's goals and the needs of the target audience, Lotte started with a preliminary research and interviewed the guest teachers. This resulted in a clear common wish: that the lesson would convey a sense of connection and offer more space for the stories that children themselves have to share about the subject. Inspired by McClelland's iceberg model, we decided to shift the focus of the lessons to making children's rights more tangible.

In this way we arrived at the concept for the toolbox ‘Together We Discover Child Rights'. With the use of three interactive games, teachers make children discover the subject of children's rights. The games invite children to think for themselves and to express their thoughts on the subjects covered in the lesson.

“For years, volunteers have passionately been teaching children about Child Rights and UNICEF’s projects. But to be able to make children feel more involved with the subject, to serve schools better in a demand oriented way and to give our volunteers enough support to give an interactive lesson, we called in Lotte’s help. She developed a concept for us that takes all (complex) preconditions into account. It is simple, playful, innovative and challenging. It plays on the strength and motivation of the volunteers, the curiosity of students and the wishes of education.” – Lotte Raisifar, project manager Children’s Rights Education at UNICEF Netherlands

In July 2022, the toolbox ‘Together We Discover Child Rights’ was launched in the Netherlands. After great enthusiasm from colleagues in other countries, the toolbox was translated into English, German and French to start new pilots for projects in Ireland, Austria, France and Germany.
